This study describes coordinated efforts between these groups-the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), the agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation that currently administers the federal pipeline safety program, the various state authorities that participate in that program, and the natural gas industry-that together provide for the safe and reliable transportation of natural gas.
